Interesting clock believed to come from South Africa.well that’s what the last owner said. I have given this a lot of thought and decided to leave the outside finish as it is. It appears to be made of Scottish Pine. As it was made or a lesser quality wood it was intended to varnished or painted to match the piece of furniture it was fitted to. In this case it has had a technique called Graining applied to simulate a quality wood affect that would also be applied the the surrounding furniture, or what ever it was fixed to. When I got the clock the glass was smashed and it had a large dent in the face. I managed to pull the dent out but it’s left some paint scuff marks. I will leave it as it is as I think if I try and touch the marks up it will Infact look worse.
All the mechanical bits has been stripped , oiled and adjusted and it works just as it was intended all those years ago. It just requires the glass replacing that I now have.
It measures 30 X 16 inch . Andy
Hello Gents
This is a really interesting piece, would have been great to know which mansion in South Africa this was in? In fact any history of Gents’ items is always interesting !!
Thanks for posting Andy.
