I have 2 of these , not from the same place ,this one is in much better condition than the other. With this one the case has a slightly blue shade of grey ,not the normal grey. I believe this could be due to a paint shortage or a job lot of surplus paint during or after the war. The reason for me thinking this is the other items from the same source were installed during and just after the war. But then again I could be wrong .
Gents had a major design flaw in these chargers. If the selenium rectifier failed and went short circuit it would cook and destroy the transformer. I would advise anyone wanting to use one of these to put a inline fuse before the rectifier. The fuses in the charger will not protect the transformer in this case . The rectifier will probably be at or near the end of its life span anyway . If it is replaced with diodes or a bridge rectifier I would still strongly recommend this mod. Andy
