Gents’ of Leicester Metal Clad Hospital Call System FIG. 12

A pair hospital call system specially used in X-ray and theatre rooms. Organ min ally I thought these were used as intercoms but clearly they are more a system connecting a buzzer. They look very similar the BBC Broadcasting clocks.

These are a pair of Gent’s of Leicester control panels, staff call system, used in a hospital setting. Each panel has:

  1. Two indicator lights labeled “THEATRE” (red) and “X RAY” (green).
  2. Switches below each light, presumably to activate or deactivate the corresponding indicators.
  3. A buzzer button at the bottom, labeled “BUZZER,” which might have been used to alert or signal staff.

Given the labels and setup, these panels were probably used to indicate the status of different rooms (such as a surgery theater or an X-ray room) and to communicate or alert staff members when needed.

Gent’s of Leicester has a long history dating back to the 19th century and has produced a variety of signalling and control equipment for different industries, including healthcare.

Restoration Process

I figured that I’d make these the original brass colour. The below is the process to date. I’m going to need to get some vinyl printed of the logo and add this back in at the base of the front panel !!!
